Service Life Engineering: Al Shindagha Tunnel, Dubai

December 23, 2014

TCG was engaged by Al Shirawi Facilities Management to conduct a comprehensive corrosion investigation of the Al Shindagha Tunnel, located in Dubai, UAE. The Al Shindagha Tunnel is one of five crossings of the Dubai Creek and one of the oldest civil structures in Dubai. After completion in 1975 the tunnel experienced serious leakage, which allowed significant chloride loading of the interior tunnel requiring extensive repairs. Following the repairs, continuous monitoring and strict maintenance regimes were implemented. TCG’s overall work scope involved conducting a comprehensive technical assessment of the tunnel, including inspections of structural and mechanical tunnel components, in-situ and laboratory testing of concrete and reinforcing steel, and developing recommendations for extending service life.
